Content DescriptionReturn to Top
The Owl Creek mining claim collection contains hand-copied duplicates of letters between J. H. White, who owned Todd's Valley Saw Mill and a half a stake in the Owl Creek Claim, and career miner Felix Chapellet. Chapellet owned the other half of the Owl Creek claim and also owned Live Oak Mining Company, The May Flower Company and the Hawk Eye and the Wolverine Tunnels. The letters concern the operation and progress of the Owl Creek claim, tunnels built, lumber for all of Chapellet's various claims, and a discussion of White selling his half of the claim since he was not working it. Also included are notes on ranches and other properties in the area in the 1880s with descriptions, including Owl Creek claim. These would appear to be for a legal case.
