Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Jennifer Kurzweil is a writer and nonprofit communications professional. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing and Women’s Studies from the University of Washington in 1998. Her book “Fields that Dream: A Journey to the Roots of Our Food” was released in 2005. And her articles have been published in Science Careers, Science, Winds of Change Magazine, Hispanic Outlook on Higher Education, Journal for Minority Medical Students, HopeDance, California Certified Organic Newsletter, and Bricolage.

Kurzweil is working on a memoir about the three women who influenced her most and what it was like to grow up in a radical feminist lesbian Jewish post-Communist household. She and her family live in Santa Cruz, California.

In May of 1998, Jenny Kurzweil interviewed her grandmother Rose for six hours over the course of three days. Over that summer she transcribed the interviews. The play "Grandma Rose" is a reconstruction of their conversation. In the play, Rose recounts her family history and details of their lives. They emigrated from Poland and moved to New York City in the 1920s and 1930s. The play is 33 pages. Also included is an essay written by Kurzweil about her grandmother and the play entitled, "Grandma Rose and the Creation of my own Jewish Memory." It is 10 pages.
