Archives West Finding Aid

The collection contains manuscripts of screenplays, screen stories, and television series, published stories/articles, and correspondence, 1949-1975.

The initial donation of 1968 is organized into series:

Series I: screenplays consist of manuscript material including outlines, drafts, an revised versions for four titles.

Series II: screen stories include manuscripts for three titles.

Series III: television scripts include manuscripts of episodes for the television series Whiplash, The Ford Television Theatre, The Outcasts, Wagon Train, Temple Houston, Laredo, Court Martial (also known as Attorneys at War), and Judd for the Defense.

Scripts are organized by title of episode and T.V. series title and production information is included and noted on the paper finding aid. Manuscript material includes story outlines, multiple drafts and revisions, production versions, corrections and notes, and teleplays.

Series IV: consists of television story outlines and short story manuscripts. There are manuscripts for four titles.

Series V: plays contains music and lyrics, story outline and book for the title Queen of Hearts.

Series VI: contains published stories by Day that appeared in magazines and newspapers, 1949-1952.

Series VII: consists of fan letters regarding an episode of Wagon Train.

The 1969 addendum contains television scripts. Manuscript material includes story outlines, drafts, revisions, production versions, and related correspondence. Television series include The High Chaparral, The Virginian, Marcus Welby, M.D., and Lancer.

The 1975 addendum contains television scripts and manuscript material includes story outlines, notes, plot summaries, prospectus, and multiple revisions of production scripts. Television series include Young Doctor Kildare, Little House on the Prairie, The New Perry Mason, Kodiak, Gunsmoke, The High Chaparral, Matt Helm, and The New Land.
