Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Henry Friedman was born 1928 in Brody, Poland (present day Ukraine). After the Germans invaded Poland during World War II, Friedman and his family were hidden by neighbors for eighteen months, and were finally liberated in March 1944. Friedman eventually immigrated to Seattle in 1949 and was drafted into the US Army in 1950. Upon his return, he worked in the fashion jewelry business for 28 years. Friedman founded the Washington State Holocaust Education Resource Center and was instrumental in helping establish the United States Holocaust Museum in Washington DC.

Friedman discusses his family's survival during the Holocaust in Poland, his immigration to the United States, and his work promoting Holocaust remembrance and curriculum in public schools. Also includes a Seattle/King County Generations United booklet honoring Friedman for his work in Holocaust education.and a photograph of Friedman.
