Born in about 1902, Lillie Beaty (also spelled "Beatty") entered school in Amity, Oregon on September 23, 1918, at the age of 15.

The collection consists of letters from friends and family members written to Lillie when she was around 12 to 18 years old. Most letters are from her brothers, Carl C. Beaty and Joe Beaty, who were living in Hemlock, Oregon, and from her mother in Hemlock and Portland.
