Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Lucille Charlotte Gordon was born on November 14th, 1914 in Seattle, WA. She was an American citizen of Scottish descent. Lucille held various library positions throughout the Pacific Northwest, including Branch Assistant in the Tacoma Public Library (1939-1943) and Library Association of Portland (1943-1946), Circulation Assistant at Seattle Public Library (1946-1954), and Branch Librarian with the Aloha Branch Library in Seattle (1955).

Lucille Gordon received her Bachelors of Arts degrees and Bachelor of Arts in Librairianship degree from the University of Washington in 1937 and 1939. She continued to take classes at the University of Washington between 1939 and 1958. Lucille also wrote and collected poetry. She died on March 27, 2001.

Creator's literary rights not transferred to the University of Washington Libraries by Deed of Gift. Papers came to us via the ACLU of Washington State who received them from Gordon's estate.

Acquisition Information

Lucille Charolotte Gordon died March 27th, 2001, leaving a bequest to ACLU. McCune, Godfrey, and Emerick, Seattle handled Ms. Gordon's estate and forwarded Lucille Gordon documents to national ACLU office in New York on August 20, 2001. The national ACLU in New York forwarded Lucille Gordon documents to ACLU of Washington in September 2001. April Williamson, Finance Director for ACLU-WA, found the Lucille Gordon documents while preparing for retirement and sent them to Special Collections on October 5th, 2015.
