Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Harry Johnson Sears, Ph.D. (1895-1962). Born Daviess Co. Mo.; Stanford University, Baccalaureate (1911), Masters (1912) and Ph.D. (1916). After some time in Berkeley's Health Laboratory as a bacteriologist moved to Oregon where he was the first bacteriologist in the State and of the Medical School. As such he was a the natural choice as head of that department (1918-56) retiring in 1957. Widely involved in all facets of Public Health, Dr. Sears was also an instructor for nursing students and served as Head of Admissions for years as well.
