Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Per note in collection: William Foster Dalton (1874-1955) was a Yorkshireman who began sailing in 1889. His travels took him to Seattle, Tacoma, San Francisco, and Oregon, where he worked as a lumberjack. He met and spoke with President Taft, who persuaded him to become an American citizen. At various times he was also a deputy sheriff and an officer in the Brazilian Navy.

Microfilm contains manuscript book, "Wanderer's Life: an Autobiography," by Dalton, regarding his travels along the Pacific Coast from San Francisco, California, to Seattle, Washington, in the early 1900s.
