Professor of chemistry, University of Washington.

Paul C. Cross was born 1907. He received a Ph.D. from University of Wisconsin, 1932. At Brown University Cross was a professor from 1938-1943 and a researcher for the Naval Research Laboratory from 1940-1943. From 1943-1945 he was the Deputy and Data Research Director, Underwater Explosives Research Laboratory. He was director of the Metacalf Research Laboratory from 1946-1949 and head of the Chemistry Department, University of WAshington from 1949-1961. He was president, and performed other functions, at Mellon Institute/Carnegie-Mellon University, 1961-1971. He also worked at the Naval Ordinance Test Station (China Lake, California). He died in 1978.
