Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Feminist activist, attorney, author. Founder and first Executive Director of Northwest Women's Law Center, Seattle, 1978-1980. A practicing attorney with emphasis on family law and women's rights, Gillespie became an expert on battered women and authored a book, "Justifiable Homicide," in 1989. She was at work on a book on pornography and violence at the time of her death from cancer in early 1993 in Seattle.
