Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Leonard Leibel was born on October 23, 1916 in Missoula, Montana. He worked for the city of Missoula before joining the U.S. Navy in 1942. Leibel completed basic training at Farragut naval base in Idaho before serving in the Marshall Islands from April 1944 until his discharge in November 1945. Leibel died on October 5, 1984.

The Leonard Leibel Photograph Album features scenes from Bitterroot area of Idaho and Montana circa the 1930s and early 1940s. It also contains photos from Leibel’s time in the U.S. Navy in Idaho, California, and the Marshall Islands during World War II. Images from the Palm Loma Navy repair base, local Marshallese, and V-J day are highlights of the collection.
