Biographical NoteReturn to Top

University of Washington Forest Resources Professor and Dean Emeritus. James Samuel Bethel graduated from the University of Washington in 1937, then later returned as a member of the faculty in 1962. Bethel served as dean of the UW College of Forestry from 1964 to 1981. He was responsible for starting the pulp and paper program, and oversaw the construction of new buildings. He retired in 1981, and died on May 18, 1999 at the age of 83.
