Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Paul Cressey was an urban sociologist for the Rockefeller-sponsored Foreign Mission Inquiry of 1930-1931. Assigned to India, Cressey conducted an investigation of the social and health benefits of Protestant missionary work in Asia. Cressey was a professor of sociology at Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusettes for the majority of his professional life, and his speciality in this capacity was Asian cultures. He also spent sabbaticals as a professor of Asian culture and history at the University of Rangoon in 1949-1950, and at Silliman University in Dumaguete, Phillippines in 1956-57 and 1964-1965. Paul Cressey retired to the Seattle area in 1966, and passed away in 1969.
