Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Henry Greenwood Peabody was born in 1855. Early in his career, Peabody lived in Boston and documented the Northeast, including images of American yachts and the White Mountains. Later in his career, he made views for William Henry Jackson that were passed on to the Detroit Publishing Co. for use in their postcards. He eventually moved to California, where he photographed extensively in the San Francisco and Los Angeles areas.
Peabody toured extensively and created bound travelogs of Mexico, California, Yellowstone, and Yosemite National Park. He also published several works, including "Glimpses of the Grand Caynon," and "Representative American Yachts : A Collection of One Hundred and Ten Views." Peabody provided plates for several publications written by others, including "Spanish-Colonial Architecture in Mexico." He died in 1951.
