Beginning in the early 1920s, he devoted full time to teaching, especially editing. McIntosh retired in 1941 and died in Salem, Oregon, on November 28, 1952.
The Story of the Oregon State College Barometer Manuscript consists of approximately 900 typewritten pages about the contents and form of the OSU student newspaper, the Barometer, from its inception in 1896 through 1947. Compiled by C.J. McIntosh beginning in 1947, it was intended as a history of Oregon State College as seen through the Barometer. The manuscript has never been published.
