John S. Haines managed Haines Groceries of Missoula, Montana through the 1950s and 1960s. By the 1970s he was serving as Missoula City Treasurer. He married Mildred Strom in 1938.

This collection contains a diverse group of photos relevant to Missoula, Montana, history, a 1933 program from the Wilma Theater, and a flyer regarding the 1969 opening of the new Missoula City Hall. The photos depict everything from Missoula dignitaries to Missoula landmarks, the Missoula police, streetcars, the 1908 flood of the Clark Fork River, and Native Americans.

Processing Note

Photographs numbered 564(II):1 through 564(II):34 (folders 3 through 36) were removed from display boards and placed in folders in 2003. Existing captions were used to describe these photos. Photographs in folders 37 through 51 were added to the collection in 2007.
