This series contains organizational and legal data produced by the association. It includes by-laws, constitution and amendments, officer and committee lists, membership lists and information on the dissolution of the Association. The Series also contains legal documents generated by and related to the association's business.

This series consists of general correspondence to and from the organization concerning routine matters of business, equipment, and fire reports.

This series consists of material generated and collected by the association on a variety of subjects. Materials include correspondence, reports, and accounts with various entities. Correspondents include the Anaconda Company, congressmen (including Mike Mansfield, Joseph Wheeler, and James Murray), the Glacier Park Company, the Great Northern Railroad Company, the Montana State Board of Forestry, the Northern Pacific Railroad Company, the Department of the Interior, and the U.S. Forest Service. There are circular letters to members that address routine concerns of accounts receivable, fires suppressed per season. Subjects include the use of airplanes in fire detection, the celebration of Forest Protection Week, and publicity and public affairs. There are numerous letters to other forestry or forest protective agencies. There are also letters from individuals seeking employment with the association.

This series contains income tax statements, ledger accounts, payroll and wage scale information, and trial balance statements for the association. These provide information on members served, pay rates, prices for equipment and vehicles, employee names, telephone locations, and employee time records. There are additional financial notes and reports from the Northern Montana Forestry Association treasurer on the backs of several of the posters in Series XVI: Memorabilia.

This series consists of the minutes of the association annual Board of Directors meetings.

This series contains reports generated by the association, including annual, auditors committee, fire, daily service, time, and weather. Fire Reports include initial fire report from lookouts, fire diaries, and accounts of fire activities. Weather reports include fire weather forecasts, weather bulletins, correspondence about weather, precipitation diagrams, and monthly summaries; the USDA is the source of some of the weather data. It also contains the reports of the Chief Fire Warden. Reports titled "Clarke-McNary" refer to fire protection in the national forests. One folder labeled "fire lookouts" gives the names and locations of stations and of the men staffing them.

This series contains approximately 80 U.S. Forest Service maps of Montana with hand-drawn annotations that show lands serviced by the association. There are statements and other notes attached to each map. Some early maps also show locations of smokechaser stations and fire lookouts.

This series contains equipment inventories and records of trail and telephone maintenance.

This series contains reports issued by national and regional forestry organizations.

This series consists of clippings and publications produced by national and regional forestry organizations, including the Western Wood Products Association.

This series contains financial records, the minutes of annual and trustee's meetings, and publications, mostly proceedings of the association's twice-yearly conference. They were apparently collected by an official of the Northern Montana Forestry Association.

This series consists of a 1970 American Legion and a 1991 Boy Scouts of America awards. There is also one folder of posters, most of which were produced by the Forest Service. These offer interesting examples of the public relations end of forest fire management, particularly in connection with the World War II domestic effort. There are also numerous treasurer's notes and reports for the Northern Montana Forestry Association on the backs of several of the posters.

This series consists of eighteen photos. Most are of an unidentified lumber camp in a clearcut in about the 1940s; two others are of the smoke plume from an unidentified fire on August 20, 1946.

This series contains eight reels of microfilm; materials contained on them may duplicate others elsewhere in the collection. They hold Northern Montana Forestry Association organizational records, member lists, correspondence, and reports. In addition, there are materials from the Montana Lumber Manufacturers Association, price lists for various Montana lumber companies, and newspaper clippings.
