Joseph Cohen was born in 1904 and moved to Seattle with his family in 1909. He became one of the first Jews on the faculty at the University of Washington. He was active in the Washington State Jewish Historical Society and its predecessor organization in the 1970’s.

Scope and Content: Tape recorded interview conducted by Richard C. Berner and Karyl Winn, 1900-1940, transcript.

Jewish education in Seattle before 1920, education in New York City Yeshiva, and climate for Jewish students at the UW in the mid-20's are among the subjects discussed.
