Biographical NoteReturn to Top

William A. "Bill" Degenhardt (1902-1956) was a Seattle mountaineer, climber, skier, and photographer and past president of The Mountaineers. Mt. Degenhardt in the North Cascades is named after him. Bill Degenhardt was born in 1902 in St. Petersburg, Russia, but lived in Seattle from 1921 until his untimely death. He was employed in the public works office of the 13th Naval District headquarters. He belonged to the American Alpine Club and the Canadian Alpine Club as well as the Mountaineers; long active in mountain rescue work, he was vice chairman of the Mountain Rescue Council. He died November 15, 1956.
