Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Professor of history at Central Washington University. Walter L. Berg was born in 1922 in Tacoma, WA. He was called to active duty in 1943 and served in the U.S. Navy as Lt. j.g. in the Pacific Theater and was placed on inactive duty in 1946. He received his B.A. degree from the University of Puget Sound in 1946 and later enrolled in Professor Max Savelle's History Graduate Writing Seminar at the University of Washington. Under the direction of Professor Savelle he completed his M.A. thesis in 1948. Continuing his graduate studies, he completed his dissertation under the guidance of Professor W. Stull Holt and received his Ph.D. in history from the University of Washington in 1957.
