Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Edwin William Hopkinson (1875-1956) was born in Iola, Kansas. He was a labor activist, farmer, chicken rancher, and chairman of Communist Party of Pierce County, Washington as well as the timber expert of the Autonomous Industrial Colony in Kuznetsk Basin, Kemerovo, Siberia (it was a mining operation). He was a member of the Industrial Workers of the World, and closely associated with the Unemployed Citizens Council of Pierce County, with the Washington Pension Union, and leftist movements. His wife Mary (Bartels) Hopkinson was also an activist in labor movements, especially the Washington Pension Union.
