Professor of sociology, University of Washington.
Pierre van den Berghe received his doctoral degree from Harvard University in 1960. He joined the University of Washington faculty in 1965 with an appointment to the sociology department and subsequently held a joint appointment in anthropology. Van den Berghe focussed his teaching and research in the areas of comparative sociology, stratification, race and ethnic relations, kinship and sociobiology.
