The collection consists of three items - an academic hood and diploma presented to Klages in 1991, and a plaque of appreciation which is undated. Esther Winter Klages was presented with an honorary degree of Doctor of Human Letters by George Fox College in 1991.

Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Esther Winters Klages (1904-2004) was a teacher, university administrator, and church worker. She attended Cascade College, Willamette University, and University of Southern California where she received a master's degree in religion in 1942. After the death of her husband, Henry Klages, she moved to Newberg, Oregon, where she became a volunteer and benefactor of George Fox College (now University). The Centennial Bell Tower is credited to her inspiration, while the Klages Dining Room and Klages Plaza are named in her honor.
