Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Dr. Randolph P. Pillow was a longtime hydroplane racing enthusiast and Seafair supporter. Between 1950 and 1975 he served as a driver, owner, medic, and general chairman for numerous hydroplane races throughout the Pacific Northwest. As medical chairman he oversaw the work of several dozen doctors and nurses on race day. In 1960 he and his staff handled 7 major and 242 minor medical cases in one day, ranging from drivers with crash-related burns and fractures to spectators with heatstroke. Pillow, a hematologist, was founder and executive director of International Medical Services at Virginia Mason Medical Center.
