The Music and Art Foundation was organized in 1923 as a "non-profit organization devoted to stimulating greater interest in the cultrual arts - particularly among the young people of (the) community." They opened the Free Creative Art School for Children in 1928. Founded Seattle Youth Symphony 1942. The foundation took over ownership and direction of the Cornish School to prevent it from closing in 1954, directing it until 1974. The following organization received financial support from the Foundation: Allied Arts of Seattle; Cornish School of Allied Arts; Creative Arts School Committee; and San Francisco Opera Auditions Committee. The Foundation was dissolved November 30, 1994.

Financial records include listing of stocks and securities; legacies, scholarship bequests, etc. Subject series include Northgate Forums and Chamber Music Seminars. Cornish School subgroup includes writing on Music and Art Foundation's relationship with Cornish, folder on Cornish School/M & A Foundation separation, etc.
