1 sound cassette (60 min.)

Scope and Content: Tape recorded interview conducted by K. Winn on 2 Oct 1974, covering the years 1939 through 1950.

Interview concerns her work as relocation supervisor for the Seattle Housing Authority and race relations advisor for the Federal Public Housing Authority. She describes the various kinds of housing discrimination problems the war production effort intensified in integrated housing projects. In 1946 she became the first paid executive secretary of the Seattle Civic Unity Committee. She discusses the committee's modus operandi and endorses its method of persuading opinion leaders rather than engaging in more public campaigns. She describes tactics in the two Fair Employment Practices Campaigns, the second of which was successful.
