Almira Raymond, wife of William W. Raymond, mission farmer, arrived in Oregon in 1849 as part of the mission "reenforcement" aboard the sailing ship Lausanne. She wrote detailed letters to her parents, the James Davids of Amsterdam, New York, and a sister, Mrs. John Simmo.

Collection consists of 10 photostat copies and 1 original letter. The letters reflect the hardships of mission life and the ambiguous attitude of the missionaries toward the Indians. The autograph letter is from Darius Smith to W. W. Raymond, from San Francisco, June 5, 1859, commenting on the delights of the city.
