Accession No. 3057-001: Abe Zelikovsky oral history interview, 1979Return to Top

2 sound cassettes (3 sides)

Scope and Content: Tape-recorded interveiw covering the years 1880-1979.

This informative interview tells of life in Harbin, Mukden, Tientsin, and Shanghai before the 1918 Russian revolution and before World War II. Zelikovsky tells of Japanese kindness to Jewish refugees from Russia in 1917 and kindness to German Refugees in Shanghai after Hitler's rise to power. Zelikovsky's father decided to move the family to America where he had travelled on business. He was in America when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor but Abe's mother, with the children, had only reached Manila. Mrs Zelikovsky decided to enter the camp at the University of Santo Tomas because they were stateless. They remained there for three years before travelling to the United States in 1945.

An extensive summary is attached to the Basic Data Sheet.
