Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Dan Escalona was a Seattle native who travelled to work in Alaskan canneries. He first started working in the canneries after graduating high school in the summer of 1975 and continued until 1981. Escalona had the esteemed job of moving racks of freshly caught and canned salmon into huge steamers, where the salmon would be cooked and ready to eat out of the can. Dan's job was prized because it had breaks "built into" it because of the 20 minute cooking time for the steamers, unlike many other cannery jobs.
