Among the prolific performers who contributed immensely to popularise the traditional genre known as Sewruba, is Bakary Marong, [who was active in the early 1970's]. He was born in Kiang Dumbuto in the Lower River Region, although his parents reportedly originated from Baddibu in the North Bank of the Gambia.
