"Mercer girl," Washington pioneer

Ann S. Conner Hartsuck (1826-1918) was born in Concord, New Hampshire. She was educated at the Exeter Female Academy and McGaw Normal Institute. In 1865 she sailed for Washington Territory as one of the women Asa Mercer transported to Seattle in a settlement venture. She taught school in Elma, Washington, and in 1869 married Mark Hartsuck.
