Summary
Black and white photographs and cyanotypes, primarily in two albums. Scenes in one album relate to work by the U.S. Geological Survey in the Pacific Northwest from 1898-1900, particularly in Idaho; locations include Coeur d'Alene Lake, Spokane, Mount Adams, the Columbia River Gorge, and Mount Hood. Ralph Penniwell Cowgill (born 1880) served as an engineer for the Oregon State Game Commission, as president of the Oregon Game Protective Association, and in the Oregon Legislature (R-Medford).

Collection consists of 209 black and white photographs and cyanotypes and 1 negative, primarily in two albums, 1898-1915. The albums were designated Album 548 and Album 549 by the Oregon Historical Society Research Library. Album 548 includes images relating to work by the U.S. Geological Survey in the Pacific Northwest; scenes include Coeur d'Alene Lake, Murray, Wallace, and Blossom Lake in Idaho; Spirit Lake, Spokane, and Mount Adams in Washington; and Sunset Mine, Crescent Lake, the Columbia River Gorge, and Mount Hood in Oregon. Subjects also include mining and the steamboat Georgie Oakes. Album 549 contains black and white photographs and cyanotypes, including images of an irrigation project near Medford, Oregon.
