Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Raymond Henry Lung (1926-2009) grew up in Fresno, California, and enlisted in the Merchant Marine prior to finishing high school. He studied at Fresno State and graduated from the University of Oregon. Lung enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in the Korean War. After the war, he moved to Portland with his wife, Jacquie. He began working in the US National Bank of Portland's trust department while he was a student at the Northwestern School of Law. In 1959, Lung moved to Klamath Falls to take responsibility for the Klamath Indian Management Trust, which was formed following termination of the Klamath Tribe to manage land for the remaining 473 tribal members who elected not to receive a share of liquidated tribal assets. Lung also oversaw the later dissolution of the trust and sale of trust lands, as well as the subsequent distribution of proceeds. In 1975, Lung returned to Portland as manager of US Bank's trust group and as a member of the bank's executive board. He retired in 1991 as executive vice president.
