Historical NoteReturn to Top
Grace E. Hall (?-1939) was a journalist, author, and poet. Hall moved from Illinois with her family to Corvallis, Oregon in 1884 where she met and married her husband in 1901. In 1918, The Oregonian started to publish her poetry as a regular feature, and in 1923 her poems became syndicated all over the world. Hall also wrote under several pseudonyms, the most known being Mona Vale and Laith Leslie.

Collection contains manuscripts of her books, articles, speeches, and vignettes, poetry, clippings, and miscellaneous items.
Correspondence includes both incoming and outgoing letters and is organized by alphabetically.
Article length manuscripts include fifty-two articles including: "Apple Blossoms," "Chance Shots," "It," "Weed," and "Values."
Manuscripts of vignettes include "If I were King," and "Without benefit of legs."
The manuscripts of speeches and radio talks include holograph, typed, carbon, and printed copies.
The poetry in this collection includes 600 poems and is arranged alphabetically by title. Titles include "Away," "The Coquette," and "Denial."
The Scrapbook includes poetry clippings dating from 1893-1917.
Miscellaneous items include photographs, programs, poetry and prose.
