Content DescriptionReturn to Top

The original photographs in the collection were arranged in three handmade cardboard scrapbooks bound with shoelaces. They were divided by location and by date: Scrapbook [1] North Africa, 1943-1944, (17 pages, 140 photographs); Scrapbook [2] Besancon, France, 1943-1944-1945, (29 pages, 218 photographs); and Scrapbook [3] during the Mediterranean Voyage, in Southern France, during a train trip to Besancon, at Besancon, in Paris, trips to small towns, the Swiss border and the trip back home to the States, 1943-1944-1945. The photographs show the hospital facilities, staff, and activities of the hospital staff. Of special interest are the photographs of landscapes, homes, and people in daily activities in each locale. There are also photographs of German, French, Russian, and Arab soldiers, patients, and prisoners of war.
