Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Carl W. Scott was born in Minneapolis, Kansas, October 17, 1887. He was educated at the University of Utah, and graduated in 1907 with a degree in mining. After graduating, he worked for a short time in the mining industry. As fas as can be ascertained, he was employed by Richard K. A. Kletting as a draughtsman sometime before Kletting retired in 1913.

In 1914, Scott formed a partnership with George W. Welch which lasted until 1940. Their designs include several schools in Utah. Many of their drawings have been executed in intricate detail. Scott was active in Masonic and Shriners organizations; this connection may account for his commission to design the Masonic Temple in Salt Lake City, as well as the Salt Lake Shriners Hospital. Carl Scott died May 19, 1959.
