Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Byron Randall was born in October 23, 1918 in Tacoma, Washington, and raised in Salem, Oregon. When he was 20 years old he had a solo show at the Whyte Gallery in Washington, D.C. which launched his art career. In 1942 he moved to San Francisco and became the first president of the Artists' Guild of San Francisco. He studied painting in Mexico for a while and rented a studio above the famous City Lights Bookstore. He eventually established a guest house/art gallery in Tomales, California. He was an expressionist who credited the look of his paintings to growing up in the Oregon environment. Much of his art is concerned with social justice themes. He died on August 11, 1999.
