Biographical NoteReturn to Top
David Shelton was born in 1812 and died in 1897. He was born in Buncoumbe County, North Carolina, served in the Blackhawk Indian War, the Battle of the Far West (Mormon War), and the Indian War of 1855-1856 in Washington Territory. Shelton came west on the Oregon Trail in 1847. He was a member of the first Territorial Legislature in 1854 and founder of Mason County.

Scope and Content: Reminiscence (autobiographical sketch) (xerox copy).
Location of the original unknown; presumably in family hands. Donor (Shelton's great great grandson) has "edited" the text, mainly clarifying dates where faint from water stains.
