Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Arthur Gunn was a Wenatchee, Washington, businessman, civic leader and politician. He was born in Kentucky in 1866, but moved to Kelso, Washington after graduation from college and started the Kelso Courier. He moved to Wenatchee in 1892 and managed the first bank in Chelan County, the Columbia Valley Bank. After leaving the bank in 1894 and building a flourishing real estate business, he became involved in many of the larger enterprises in Wenatchee. He became the manager of the Wenatchee Development Company; the local agent of James J. Hill, Great Northern Railway President; organized the Wenatchee Water Power Company, served as President of Wenatchee Gas & Electric Company and the Wenatchee Commercial Club. He was a member of the Columbia River Bridge Committee and during a portion of 1897- 98, was associate editor of the Wenatchee Advance.

In a special election in early 1905, Gunn was chosen to fill a vacancy as State Senator. He also did much to bring about the organization of Chelan County. Arthur Gunn died May 24, 1917 in an automobile accident. .
