These climbers were a group in the Mountaineers who made many first ascents in the North Cascades. Mr. Strandberg was the first (with Bill Degenhardt and Jim Martin) to explore the Southern Pickets.

Tape recorded interviews, chronological list of climbs described, and photos.
Tape-recorded interviews describe Mountaineering in the North Cascades during the period 1927-1936. The interviews were conducted by Harry Majors and Karyl Winn on August 6, 1975. The photos were donated by Don Blair and Herb Strandberg.
See list in the vertical file for names of peaks and chronology of ascents. Identity of each speaker can usually be determined by referral to chronological list.
Tape 1 - Side A: 1927 Sperry to Guye; Side B: 1931 Whitehorse to Big Four and Pickets, 1931. Tape 2 - Side A: Pickets (cont'd) 1931-32 to Sheep Gap, 1933. Side B: Sheep Gap (cont'd) Pt. 3 on Logan, 1934. Tape 3 - 1934 - Buckner (W. Peak) through Spider attempt. Also development of Mountaineer climbing code and equipment used in the 1930s.
