Mac. C. Oreiro, Jr., was born September 23rd, 1944 on Bainbridge Island, Washington. His father was Macario C. Oreiro, Sr.

Historical BackgroundReturn to Top

In the 1870s, a small group of settlers. who relied primarily on their farming and shipping industries, settled Bainbridge Island. Some of the most successful farms before 1940 were strawberry farms owned by Japanese immigrants. They, in turn, hired many of the first Filipino immigrants as berry pickers. During WWII, the Filipino pickers took over the farm's responsibilities while the owners were sent to internment camps. As of 2000, self-identified Filipinos made up 0.59% of Bainbridge Islands total population of over 23,000.
