Content DescriptionReturn to Top

The Aroet Lucius Hale diary (1835-1856) discusses his life from the time he was baptized into the LDS Church until his mission to Las Vegas, Nevada. The diary begins with an excerpt from the diary of his father, Johnathan H. Hale, telling of the family's move from Dover, New Hampshire, to Kirtland, Ohio. Aroet Hale then continues to tell of the harrassment by mobs in Missouri and the martyrdom of Joseph Smith. He also tells of his mother's and father's deaths and his leading his younger siblings to the Salt Lake Valley. His diary is an account of his involvement in the LDS Church and the beginning of westward movement.
