This collection of materials relating to Stephen Fowler Chadwick (1825-1895), who served as the fifth governor of Oregon, consists of a small quantity of correspondence; a bound manuscript, "Annual Address Delivered Before the Oregon Pioneer Association at Aurora, Marion County, Oregon," June 15, 1874; and a typescript copy and carbon copy of "The Oregon Party" by Chadwick, 1895, an account of the 1851 party that sailed from New York to Oregon via the Isthmus on the steamers "Empire City," California," and "Columbia."

Stephen Fowler Chadwick (December 25, 1825-January 15, 1895) served as Oregon secretary of state from 1870 to 1878 and as the fifth governor of Oregon from 1877 to 1878.

This collection consists of correspondence, including letters to W. E. Hicks, 3 pages, 1873, a postcard, 1875, regarding the Philomathean Literary Society, and a telegram, 1864; a bound manuscript, "Annual Address Delivered Before the Oregon Pioneer Association at Aurora, Marion County, Oregon," by Stephen Fowler Chadwick, 50 pages, June 15, 1874; and a typescript copy and carbon copy of "The Oregon Party" by Chadwick, 3 pages, 1895, an account of the 1851 party that sailed from New York to Oregon via the Isthmus on the steamers "Empire City," California," and "Columbia," which was to be published in the Oregon Statesman before he died.
