Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Jewish community leaders Dorothy and Jerome Becker were founding members (1968) of Congregation Beth Shalom, a Conservative Jewish synagogue affiliated with the United Synagogue of America. Both have served as President of the Congregation, Jerome ca. 1970-1972 and Dorothy ca. 1977-80. Jerome was also Vice-President 1969-1970, and Treasurer ca. 1968 and ca. 1982. Dorothy was a member of the Board of Directors ca. 1982 and ca. 1989, served as President of the Beth Shalom Sisterhood ca. 1972, and as Vice-President--Administration of the Pacific Northwest Branch of the Women's League For Conservative Judaism ca. 1969-1970.

Scope and Content: Contains correspondence, board minutes and agendas, the Ruach newsletter, flyers, programs, and photographs from Congregation Beth Shalom (1968-2006); financial reports, minutes, and programs from the Women's League for Conservative Judaism, both the Pacific Northwest Branch and the Beth Shalom sisterhood (1970-1977); indentures for tracts in Herzl Memorial Park as well as by-laws, maps, burial lists, correspondence and Jerome Becker's research regarding Jewish cemeteries in Washington State (1912-2004); Governing Board minutes for a High School of Jewish Studies (1971-1972); Executive Officer minutes and correspondence from Herzl Conservative Congregation of which Jerome Becker and his father Sol Becker served as Secretary (1947,1956); and Executive Board minutes from the Washington State Jewish Historical Society (1980-1988).
