Historical BackgroundReturn to Top
Weyerhaeuser opened a logging camp at McDonald, Washington in 1940. At the time the company considered the camp as one of the most modern in the nation. The loggers lived in small bunkhouses that held eight men rather than earlier bunkhouses that housed 30-40 men. The bunkhouses had lockers for the men and a special drying room for wet clothing. The cookhouses had up-to-date stoves and refrigerators and had chairs rather than benches for eating. The logging camp was named after the general superintendent, Ronald McDonald.
