Molly Cone was an author of many books for children in addition to Family of Strangers: Building a Jewish Community in Washington State.

Molly Lamken Cone was born in Tacoma, Washington in 1918 to a Latvian immigrant family. She graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma, and attended the University of Washington. She married Gerald (Jerry) Cone in 1939.

She wrote over 45 books, and received many literary awards, including the selection of her children's book Mishmash (published 1962) as one of the 100 best children's books by the New York Times. The State of Washington awarded Molly Cone the Washington Governor's Writers Award three times.

Molly Cone died in March 2016.

Research files and original manuscript for Family of Strangers, of which Molly Cone was the head writer, with co-authors Howard Droker and Jacqueline Williams. Family of Strangers is a history of the Jewish community in Washington State published by Washington State Jewish Historical Society in association with University of Washington Press. Also included is an undated autobiographical sketch reprinted from "Something About the Author."
