The Library Systems Coordinating Committee formed a Task Force on Authority in 1992 to investigate authority control issues related to the implementation of a new library management system. The task forces consisted of Roxanne Sellberg (chair), Kristin Lindlan, Nancy Poehlmann, and Judy Shannon and was charged with examining the issues and costs associated with incorporating vendor-provided authority control services into the pending migration to the Innovative Interfaces bibliographic database. The task force submitted a request for proposals for the authority control project for the University of Washington Libraries and Blackwell North American, Inc. was selected to provide authority control services between 1993 and 1997.
