Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Edgar Henry Thornton Sr. was born in Rutland County, Vermont in 1852 and died in 1917 in Bonneville County, Idaho. He married Mary Adelaide Yale in 1891 or 1892. In the 1900 census, he listed his occupation as a sheep grower and was living in Ogden, Utah. Edgar Henry Thornton Jr. was born in 1892.

The Wyoming Sheep Ranch photograph collection consists of 22 large format cabinet photographs mostly of sheep ranching and fishing on the North Platte River in Wyoming, Ogden Canyon, and a camp located near Beaver Creek somewhere in Southern Utah. People identified in the images include Edgar Henry Thornton Sr. and Jr. (as a boy), Mrs. Thornton (Mary Adelaide Yale), Mr. and Mrs. McDowell, Mr. and Mrs. Maison, Louise Maison, and Chas Maison.
