Historical NoteReturn to Top

The Administrative Council of the President of Central Washington College of Education was established by President Robert E. McConnell on May 6, 1940, to assist him in the appointment of campus committees, the development of strategic plans, and the creation of the college's budget. The members of the council included the President, Dean of Instruction, Business Manager, Registrar, Director of Graduate Studies, Director of Public Service and the Dean of Students. The Administrative Council dissolved in the spring of 1968 and its powers transferred to the President's Council.

The minutes in this collection contain reports made by the Central Washington College of Education Administrative Council in regards to purchasing property, building construction, faculty leaves, fees and fines, annual budgets and other financial and political decisions, 1940-1968.

Historical BackgroundReturn to Top

Central Washington University began as the Washington State Normal School in 1891. In 1937, the school was rechristened the Central Washington College of Education. In 1961, the school became Central Washington State College and, finally, in 1977, Central Washington University.
