Archibald R. Anderson was born 23 February 1868 in Fairview, Sanpete county, Utah. He was the eldest son in a family of eleven. He was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), becoming an Elder in the High Priesthood at 22. In 1895 he was called on a mission to Scotland and served there for two years. He became good friends with David O. McKay and recounts a story of teaching McKay how to sing. Returning home, he joined the family business of woolgrowing. In 1902, he married Ida R. Bushman in the Manti Temple. They raised a family of five children, although only three of the children made it to maturity. One daughter died in infancy and another, a twin, died at age ten. In 1913 Archibald helped established the Fairview State Bank as a junior investor and partner. He served as the vice president of the bank for 35 years until 1948. He remained very active in his faith, serving twenty-one years in various positions for the North Sanpete Stake High Council. He died in 1948 from cancer of the liver and was buried in Fairview.
